THE CROSSES THAT WALK

A photographic expedition into the ancient Fiesta de Cruces traditions of Peru's Ancash region, deep in the Andes Mountains. The work documents the celebrations in Huaraz, Chavín de Huántar, and surrounding highland communities, capturing rituals performed at altitudes between 3,000 and 5,000 meters (9,800–16,400 feet) above sea level, where faith, landscape, and ancestral customs converge. The expedition was organized by Rodrigo Qowasi of Puttutu Expediciones and directed by award-winning documentary photographer Tomás Munita, whose work has appeared in The New York Times and many other leading international publications.
